Mole Removal By CO2 Laser

Q-switched laser technology

Q Switched Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) is a lasing medium that helps in targeting dermal pigmentation and melasma that is not amenable to treatment with depigmenting creams and chemical peels. The laser is very effective for epidermal (superficial) and dermal (deep) pigmentation. The specific laser wavelength that is sensitive to specific color is chosen to target the lesion while sparing the surrounding normal tissue. The lesion can be treated precisely and accurately with no complication. There is fast and complete improvement.

For deeper pigments, the nanosecond pulse will penetrate the skin without damaging it and break down the deep pigments into small particles which is absorbed by the white blood cells and removed

Repeated laser treatments are necessary at an interval of one month or longer to get the desired results.

Pigmentary lesions can be targeted by Q Switched Nd:YAG….

While the epidermal lesions respond best to 532 nm (frequency doubled NdYAG) the dermal lesions are better treated with 1064 nm.

Q-switched lasers are the gold standard for treatment of tattoos.

Lentigines: usually 1-2 sessions are enough to clear lentigines at 532 nm. However there is a risk of hypo/hyperpigmentation, so avoidance of sun exposure for 4-6 weeks post laser is very important.

Cafe-au lait macules: These again can be treated effectively in 1-2 sessions, but recurrence is common which requires multiple treatments.

Freckles: Response is same as for lentigines. Although very effective.

Dermal pigmented lesions: Nevus of Ota, Nevus of Ito, mongolian spots, Hori's nevus, ABNOMs (acquired bilateral nevus of Ota like macules), and other flat pigmented birthmarks respond well at 1064 nm. Multiple sessions are usually required with near-total clearing of the lesion in most cases.

Melasma: The dermal component of melasma can also be treated but recurrence are common and complete clearnce is seen in multiple sessions.

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure can be slightly uncomfortable but is very tolerable in most cases. The pain is often described as hot oil on skin or a slap from a elastic band. some patient may require topical anaesthesia.

Post treatment…

Immediately post treatment slight swelling and redness on the adjacent skin usually resolves within ½ to 1 hr. post treatment. Fading of the lesion will be noted over 8 weeks and retreatment energy levels can be taloired depending on the clinical response observed.

IPL Photofacial

Treatment with intense pulsed light, or a Photofacial, is most commonly recommended by doctors to treat hyperpigmentation.

Chemical peels

can improve skin pigmentation by removing the cells of the epidermis which have the excess pigment. Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Salisalic acid & TCA peel or deeper phenol peel is also used to treat hyperpigmentation.

How is it Beneficial in Skin Whitening?

Various studies point out that

Glutathione inhibits melanin formation (pigment material of skin) by quenching of free radicals and peroxides that contribute to tyrosinase activation and melanin formation. Its antioxidant property also protects the skin from UV radiation and other environmental as well as internal stressors that generate free radicals that cause skin damage and hyper-pigmentation.

How can it be taken?

Since it cannot be absorbed easily from food, it has to be supplemented external sources.

Oral: daily 500 mg twice daily dose or single 1000mg dose .
It takes minimum 3-6 months for the results to be seen.
Injectable: Glutathione injections can be given into the patches of pigmentation or in combination with other procedures like Mesotherapy,Dermaroller or Oxygen Treatment.
